“Water for Wisdom” Initiative Brings Safe Drinking Water to Udawalawa Maha Vidyalaya and the Local Community


Rathnapura District, Sri Lanka – 30 July 2026 – Stichting Mission Lanka successfully inaugurated and handed over its 24th Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purification Plant at Udawalawa Maha Vidyalaya, Embilipitiya, under its flagship “Water for Wisdom” initiative.

The project was implemented under the leadership of Mr. Shantha Dalugamage, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Stichting Mission Lanka, with the aim of ensuring sustainable access to safe drinking water for schoolchildren and surrounding communities.

The newly installed Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Purification Plant will provide clean and safe drinking water to students, teachers, school staff, and residents of the surrounding area, contributing to improved health, hygiene, and overall well-being.


Advancing Sustainable Community Development

Access to safe drinking water remains one of the most important foundations for healthy communities and quality education.

Through the “Water for Wisdom” initiative, Stichting Mission Lanka continues to invest in sustainable community development by improving access to clean water in schools and rural communities throughout Sri Lanka.

The project also contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6): Clean Water and Sanitation, promoting healthier learning environments and supporting the long-term well-being of future generations.

Official Handover Ceremony

The official opening and handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Sanka Jayanath, Coordinator of Stichting Mission Lanka, together with representatives of the school and the local community.

  • School Development Committee members
  • Old Boys’ Association representatives
  • Students and parents
  • Members of the local community

The successful completion of the project was warmly welcomed by everyone present, highlighting the importance of collaborative partnerships in community development.
