The Fourth Chapter of the Empower Her initiative was successfully launched in Badulla, empowering over 100 schoolgirls through human rights education, child rights awareness, gender equality advocacy, and leadership development.

The Fourth Chapter of the Empower Her: Ensuring Equal Rights for Every Woman and Girl project was successfully launched on 12 February 2026 at B/Mahiyanganaya National College, Mahiyanganaya, Badulla, Sri Lanka.

This impactful educational initiative was implemented under the visionary leadership of Mr. Shantha Dalugamage, Founder & CEO of Stichting Mission Lanka, with generous support from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka & Maldives.

The programme was designed to empower young girls with essential knowledge, confidence, and awareness to become informed leaders and advocates for equality, justice, and sustainable development.

Key Learning Areas

More than 100 schoolgirls actively participated in the programme and received awareness and guidance in:

  • Human Rights
  • Child Rights
  • Gender Sensitivity
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Leadership awareness
  • Social responsibility

Special focus was given to SDG 5: Gender Equality, encouraging participants to understand the importance of equal rights, fairness, and women’s empowerment.

Environmental Responsibility and Global Awareness

As part of the programme, participants were introduced to the global Stop Ecocide Law advocacy movement, highlighting the relationship between:

  • Environmental protection
  • Human rights
  • Sustainable development
  • Responsible citizenship

The session encouraged young girls to become future leaders who actively contribute to building a just, peaceful, and environmentally sustainable society.

Expert Resource Contribution

The programme featured Mr. Chandrasiri Witharange from the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission as the resource person.

His insightful presentation provided students with practical understanding of rights-based approaches, gender equality, and legal awareness.

Recognition and Educational Support

At the conclusion of the programme:

  • Every participant received a Certificate of Participation
  • Educational book packs were distributed
  • Learning resources were provided to encourage continued leadership development and rights awareness
