A significant milestone in youth empowerment and gender equality was marked with the successful launch of the first chapter of the Empower Her Project 2026 at Al Aqsa National School, Kalpitiya, Puttalam District.
This impactful Legal and Human Rights Awareness Workshop brought together over 100 schoolgirls, providing them with valuable knowledge, practical guidance, and inspiration to become confident leaders and advocates for their rights.
The workshop focused on several critical themes aimed at empowering young women and building a more inclusive future, including:
- Human Rights and Child Rights
- Gender Sensitivity and Equality
- Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality)
- Environmental Responsibility
- Stop Ecocide Awareness
The initiative was conducted under the visionary leadership of Mr. Shantha Dalugamage, Founder & CEO of Stichting Mission Lanka, with the generous support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka & Maldives.
A special highlight of the program was the insightful session delivered by Mr. N. L. A. Kalam, Regional Coordinator of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, who shared important legal knowledge and practical guidance to help students understand, protect, and exercise their rights responsibly.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants received:
- Certificates of Participation
- Educational Book Packs
- Encouragement to become future community leaders and change-makers
The event was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Sanka Jayanath and Mr. Anusha Indrajith, with the valuable support of the Principal and staff of Al Aqsa National School.
This first chapter represents a strong beginning for the Empower Her six-chapter initiative, reflecting Mission Lanka Foundation’s continued dedication to empowering girls, promoting equality, raising human rights awareness, and fostering sustainable social change.
